The project was to develop an identity or a brand for the business based on the given nursery rhyme. The challenge was to define what the business idea is and how it reflects and relates to the given character.
This project was quite big and required a lot of planning, staying organised and on track, test printing and experimenting with different approaches and materials.
The project outcome is a lot more physical, rather than digital - the price list, item lists and packaging are printed on paper I soaked in coffee. The method of soaking paper in coffee is quite unpredictable; a lot of the paper would break and tear, which gave it an accurate and real feel of an old, vintage shop.
My given nursery rhyme was Jack Be Nimble, and during my research, I discovered that the nursery rhyme doesn't have a set origin; however, it does have a couple of theories. This gave me multiple options for what the business could be.
I decided to go with the theory that is based on pagan roots. Jumping over fire, or candles, is a pagan ritual that determines good luck and fortune. I decided to create a whole brand and identity for a Victorian shop that sells witchcraft items, and among them, special candles.
For the shop, I have designed and come up with a whole shop inventory and items it would sell, a price list, descriptions of items and how to use them, a shop logo, as well as packaging.
